JUST ANOTHER BLOG
BUT ABOUT SHIT THAT MATTERS
WHAT BOX?
Everyone wants to belong to a certain tribe, feel secure within their community and stay comfortable. This is completely understandable and in human nature I believe. But it has lead to stereotypes, these boxes in which we should all fit it. You’re either a ribbed protein selling, gym clothing promoting fitness model or you’re a body positive plus-size model talking about mental health, you’re either a money minded go-getter or you’re an ayurvedic studying, yoga practicing, quinoa fanatic, you’re either a meathead bbq grilling mac&cheese kinda foodie or you’re a hardcore gluten-free, soy milk, starving, vegan that misses their protein. And I mean obviously there are numerous nuances to what I’m writing here and there are more and more people that are challenging these stereotypes and breaking through that box they’ve been put in and I.APPLAUD.THAT. So take what I’m saying here with a pinch of salt but I know, that you know where I’m coming from. So let’s try and challenge that box, get interested in all kinds of shit instead of only the things you’re familiar with. Let’s educate ourselves on another level and see what we find. With this blog I just want to add my piece of the puzzle and showcase a broad spectrum of interesting topics in order to hopefully open up some eyeballs and change some minds along the way.
WHTBOX is about mindset, building yourself up, the beautiful planet we live on and then some casually thrown in rabbit holes you might want to dive into.
Welcome to WHTBOX.
MINDSET
You know that annoying monkey in your head? That constantly wants to do the complete opposite of what you should be doing? That talks you down or makes you insecure when you should be loving to yourself? Yea we all have that little monyet around somewhere. Along the way I’ve been trying to train that monkey so it’s a cute little one, one that wants to hug me and play with me instead of a baboon swinging around in the house breaking my precious valuables. How can we make sure we’re prioritizing the right things in our life and how do we make time for them in our busy day to day life. Can we combine a career, a family and still meditate, go the gym, cook healthy, feed our brain nutritious information and stay sane?
BUILDING YOURSELF UP
Building yourself up from the inside out. Believing in a healthy body and mind so you can design your life the way you want. Making sure your mental AND physical health are in order is crucial if you want to make things happen in life, if you want to control where your life is headed instead of being a cork in the tide. I know the feeling of being overwhelmed with all the choices, possibilities and pressure that we get to endure on a daily base. Family, friends, social media and the whole shabang, it’s not easy to stay close to yourself these days. Selflessness in being selfish is something I had to learn but is now one of the most important pillars in my life. It sounds weird but once you get it, you get it.
PLANET B
As there is no Planet B we have three possibilities, 1. we continue the way we are and inevitably will end up like the dinosaurs, 2. we’ll find a way to survive (we might be more like cockroaches then we think) and end up in somewhat like a Mad Max environment OR we act to preserve the nature we live in and can continue life on earth for future generations.
With clean water, fresh air, healthy soil for vegetable and fruit produce and hopefully in harmony with the natural world. At the moment it feels like we’re worried about a trillion trivial things and at the same time completely oblivious to what’s actually happening in some parts of the world. How can we stay sane and be aware?
QUESTIONS OF THE WOKE MILLENNIAL
The importance of surrounding yourself with people that are wise, that can teach and that can motivate you to be a better person is incredibly underestimated. Unfortunately not all of us are in the position to have this group of amazing people around us but we do have the choice to surround ourselves with their words and wisdoms. We chose everyday what we feed our brain and our thoughts. This shapes our mind set and perspectives. In this day and age everyone is consumed with their digital devices, aimlessly scrolling through social media and not getting anything significant out of it. I believe in the power of changing that algorithm for yourself, follow, read and listen to people that can contribute to your wellbeing, that you can learn from and look up to. I've listed some of the most (for me) life altering books, podcasts and kick ass people to follow on line.
A plant based lifestyle is the future. Wether we like it or not we cannot keep up with the demand of our meat consumption. Not only can we not keep up, we are actually destroying our planet in the process and if this wasn't already bad enough we're also slaughtering millions and millions of animals. Not just the animals that end up in the supermarket but also the animals out in the wild that are suffering because of our ignorance and self proclaimed entitlement.
But then again if it would be vital for our health and well being it would make for a strong argument to continue this behavior but people are starting to realize it's actually quite the opposite. So why for the love of love are we not all jumping on the plant based wagon to heal ourselves, mother earth and all of our co inhabiters? In this article we talk about the what's, why's and how's of a plant based lifestyle.
How important is exercise for your mental health? How do you train right? Feeling confident in your body can have a major impact on your life, not only because you feel good in a bathing suit but also the mental clarity that comes with it. "I truly believe in the health of people, a healthy person can kick some real ass in life and won't be held back by a failing or sick body" -Darin Olien. This is one of the things we can achieve with fitness. Also the discipline of showing up at the gym or on that trail or in the pool to do your work out, to do move your body is a mental challenge. If you win overcome that challenge and you master that, you master your mind and you can get past those negative thoughts. Clear them out and truly work on yourself, to be the better version of yourself from the inside out. Here I'll list things that have helped me in my journey and share my ongoing path to create the build myself up.
OTHER IMPORTANT SHIT YOU WANT TO KNOW
Did you ever fall into an internet rabbit hole? Searching for a certain subject and falling into the next and the next and the next thing. Well I’ve experienced that with a few subjects, listed on the right I’ve written my rabbit holes. Stuff that I was interested in and just kept on reading about. It realized the more I learned, the less I actually knew.
Educating yourself is incredibly important, we live in an age where the internet gives you excess to an incredible amount of information Now you can choose to believe what you hear from others or you can do your own research and see if you end up with a different perspective. “Read everything, believe nothing and eventually patterns will emerge”
Obviously I’m not a scientist or a journalist and really don’t even have any sort of paper that could make me credible of convincing you what is true and what is not (good things that’s not my goal anyway). To show cast some people that actually do know what they’re talking about I’ve listed documentaries, podcasts and books for you to dive into so you can start educating yourself. Start listening to entrepreneurs, scientist, athletes and other bright minds talking about shit that matters.
